The sun hadn't risen but it must have been morning
because the sun hadn't set maybe twelve hours before
a lone lit candle shone through the cold darkness
like those before it, maybe hundreds or more
the man and the woman were planted on floor
watched the children playing, if that's what its called
parents in the next room, nervous hushed voices
still always heard through the cracked crumbling walls
no one is leaving
we're only safe here
no one is leaving
we're only safe here
in the dark spaces
they don't see the changes
just shorter exchanges
as they shrink in their clothes
huddled together
alone, severed
they share the same nightmares
as they sleep head to toe
the fly on the old man's eye awakened no blinking
his color was worse and so was his cough
all of them knew it but none of them said it
he'd soon join the others, the ground was still soft
no one is leaving
we're only safe here
no one is leaving
we're only safe here
since the last never returned
no one had gone off
they were so far off
from the rest of the world
parents watched the children
who watched the woman
who watched the man
who was watching
the old man
with the fly on his eye
the old man was watching
the children playing
on top of his wife
buried in the floor
when there was a knock at the door
faces washed of reason
sick green and then white
all that cut the silence
was the terror in their eyes
darting across each other
they landed on the man
for he was the only one
that still had one hand
he grabbed the doors handle
without taking a breath
with the hand that once saved them
by taking the rest
"please don't do it"
"please" in cries
he sucked in the dead air
and let it swing wide

The Killer Pt. 1
03:39

Drainage pipes are full
pouring water from the roofs
echoing the splashes
of distant pounding boots
the night is quiet
but the city breathes deep
every street car horn
every sewer rat peep
but between the lines something sinister slides
between gloved fingers someone terrified cries
the body falls lifeless at his feet as he stands
lightning hits the sky showing the shadow of a man
with each fresh victim
citizens are plagued with unrest
pulsating like a heart
about to bust in its chest
hysteria sets in
temperatures rise
brother looks at brother
with suspicion in his eyes
families in terror hide behind locked doors
as one by one their neighbors are stacked up in the morgue
officials vow to citizens a justice pledge
while men in dark basements plot revenge
the night comes alive and the city holds its breath
drainage pipes, they try in vain, to wash away the stink of death
someones got to answer, someones got to pay
arms are taken up and a decision is made

The Killer Pt. 2

Torches are raised high burning through the night
matched only by the fury in their eyes
taken to the streets they set out to hunt the fiend
when they stumble upon a fresh grisly scene
the mutilated body of an unlucky man
another hunched crying with blood on his hands
the mob is an explosion of rage, fear, and dread
when the carnage clears, two lay dead
behold in morning, the people are pleased
they banded together and brought evil to its knees
they congratulate each other for the good they had served
bringing to the killer the fate he had deserved
imagine their horror when the evening comes around
another of their's slaughtered cold on the ground

Locust Tract

empty fields echo
as they parade over the shells
this old road is not less travelled
it is stained; providence quelled
the word in tow, a figure leads the flock,
his tongue loaded, his eyes locked
in their chests and in their feet
the dance, the swarm, the stage, the beat
their course righteous
for deliverance they beseech
shadows grow long as the east heats up and flares
no sympathetic air to breathe out there
waste, beasts bones, and dead fires long gone black
they trace these tales as they leave the same tracks
it will be soon he says
the land of plenty awaits our kind ahead
they look forward with hollowed eyes
an exhausted land beneath an indifferent sky
the west turns crimson and their breath turns cold
the darkness absorbs them deep into its fold
the figure waves his words in front as fire
pleads salvation and damnation, with their trier
through the blackness near and near
hollowed eyes prowl and leer
the slinking pack sniffs the ground
the seeking herd now the found
the land of plenty under a starless night
seized, consumed and drained drip dry
the dance, the swarm, the stage, the beat
no damned, no saved, only meat
shadows grow long as the east burns up and flares
no sympathetic air to breath out there
waste, beast bones, and dead fires long gone black
forgotten dust inhumed within the cracks
